Are eBooks jeopardizing the future of print books?
The
advancement of technology has proved to be a game-changer in our lives.
Accepting and adapting to technological changes is the only way of survival in
this era. Technology has changed our means of living in so many ways. Now, the
world is shifting very rapidly from print media to digital media. eBooks are
easily available for ardent booklovers on digital platforms, Google, Google
Playstore, and Amazon to name a few. People are just a click away from
accessing their favorite books and magazines.
A variety of eBooks are offered on the internet.
A lot of these books are free of cost and people do not have to take out
time to go to the bookstores to buy books and magazines. eBooks save both
people’s time and money. Book readers can read any book, any time, sitting at
home. Similarly, students also do not have to necessarily buy their course
books as they are also available online. It would not be wrong to say that
these eBooks are slowly taking away the position of printed books and
jeopardizing their future.
Covid-19 has further worsened the situation of print media as people
choose not to step out of their houses and visit the bookstores or libraries
and read books online. But still, a myriad of people opts to go with the
traditional reading methods. Also, countries like Pakistan, where many people
are technologically handicapped due to the scarcity of resources or lack of
education, are more inclined towards the print media. Nevertheless, the advent
of eBooks has made things easier for people, because who would not enjoy
getting to read online instead of taking out time to buy books.
